How do you tell someone they aren't doing a good job - and that they sort of suck?
You start off with a compliment like, "You have really nice teeth!"
Then you let them know how it is, "Thanks, we are grateful for the work you completed here. I am glad you completed your __________ ."
How do you tell someone you don't want them back?
Tell a HUGE white lie, "I don't think we are going to be filling that position. I will (I really won't) call you if we do!"
I don't like doing this. This whole tell the truth thing is overrated!

Just say basically you suck and we are going to have to let you go. bye bye! The truth sucks but at least they will know the truth.
I remember when I was teaching, if a student turns in a completely horrible, unredeemable paper, I always praised the font. "Times New Roman was a great choice. 12 point, who knew? You're so creative!"
