hello, my name is amanda

And I don't know how to do my job.

Why don't you tell me what to do. Then remind me 50 times to do it before the deadline. And then tell 3 people to tell me.

Or you can pretend to be an expert about something that you arne't. My job.

Is this coming across as sarcastic. No, no. I mean it. Tell me what do to... cause your going to do it anyway.

this is the plan, stan.

I think I am going to start getting into baby mode. Not that I'm not already preparing for the baby - or as much as I can without knowing the sex. But this is it.

A lot of moms have told me, sleep when the baby is sleeping. Or that is the time you can get a lot of your work done. Out of these two options, I like the one that allows room for a nap.

Every day I am going to take time for a nap/rest. On the couch, the bed anywhere I can accomplish nothing. I could technically do that in any room wherever I am, not I couldn't lay around like a bum.

Rest is what mommy's need. Even before that bun is born. Rest and the ability to ask your husband to do something without any slack. Mitchell is already GREAT at that!

6.26.2009

there's something wrong with this picture

While mourning the death of Michael Jackson last night (watching his music videos, dancing and singing at a pitch level only Romulus could understand) I witnessed something very disturbing.

Mitchell and Richard were talking to each other on Facebook. In the same room. Mitchell on the coach, Richard in the recliner.

Its a sad day when the men in my house are more social than I am!

maria, maria. you remind of a west side story.

Can I tell you how much this disgusts me? Another politician creating a scandal by having an affair. With an Argentinian woman, Maria. (all the Maria's out there, beware). I know this shouldn't surprise me or at this point bother me because of the outrageous number of public figures committing adultery, but it does. It makes me sick.

If it's not a politician, it's a movie star, or spots figure. Ugh! Do you know what they all have in common? They are seduced by the lure of fame, and beauty of secular objects of desire. Being money, women (or men), or material objects.

Makes me want to get rid of our cable and TV once our child is born.
I hadn't been up to Mitchell's office since before school started. These are a few pictures (among the many) that a student drew for him:

Behind these were a picture of a baby boy and baby girl! Sooooo sweet!

rabbit heaven

Yeah, there's some nice lake around here. I think it's called Rabbit Heaven. Like some animal and a nice place. Oh, it's Possum Kingdom!

5 very important things I learned from my daddy (not yours).
  1. You can pick your friends. You can pick your nose. But you can't pick your friends nose.
  2. Don't worry about anything because God is taking care of everything.
  3. Your mom is always right.
  4. There is nothing that a hug and a kiss from daddy won't fix.
  5. Share your 50th birthday with someone else. Say your oldest daughter's wedding day. Because he's just that awesome.

turnips sound good

My baby is 5 inches long and 5 ounces. ITS HUGE!

My baby is as big an entire turnip, its cartilage is forming into bones, and the umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger.

Grow my little turnip, grow!

r-e-l-a-x

Starting in less than 2 hours this is what my schedule for the weekend will look like:

1. Laying out all day long tomorrow.
2. Going to Hunter's 2nd birthday party.
3. Church.

And this is what I will be doing in approximatley 3 weeks in Hawaii. On a beach somewhere between Princeville and Kilaueu...

realization

I was searching blogs and came across this great do-it-yourself Father's Day Cards from Little Birdie Secrets.

And then I got to thinking. This time next year we will have a 7 month old baby. 7 MONTHS OLD! Sometimes I can't believe that and sometimes its just sinking it. A baby all my own. A perfect Godly creation that looks a little like me and a little like Mitchell.

Can you imagine that? Its so crazy to think about it!

My little avocado that is 4 1/2 inches right now will start to eat food and maybe drink out of a sippy cup. And even learn songs like Patty Cake.

7 months from now, that is it. And in about 25 weeks we will get to meet that precious little thing!

word to your mother

* the following statement is probably severely disjointed and is not a direct quote. its my personal interpretation and very closely what was actually said.

The job that Britt, Amanda, and Brenda are doing in Communications is so important. They are doing an excellent job of communicating to the community the work that we do here at Hardin-Simmons. Our marketing and communication efforts are vitally important to what we do here at HSU and they are doing a great job.

Dr. Lanny Hall, president of Hardin-Simmons University

i do solemnly swear...

To not go out of town, leave Abilene or travel unless absolutely necessary. And by necessary I mean Hawaii. And maybe 4th of July.

But that is it. I mean it!

We have been out of town for 5 of the past 5 weekends. Ok, me only 4 because I didn't go with Mitchell to Six Flags. I pulled the pregnancy card there. But seriously, like 5 weekends in a row.

While fun and adventure filled, it was exhausting at the same time. I think this will go down as the busiest and most traveled summer ever. See for yourself:

DFW: For the Dave Matthews Concert that we didn't go to because of swine flu. But got to visit with family while trapped in NaNa's house during a storm.

Austin/SA: To see my family and for Natalie's medical school graduation.

Arlington: My love went to Six Flags, Ricky and I saw "Up" with the Jennings. I sort of feel bad, but it was Hunter's first movie!

Lubbock: My good, wonderful, beautiful friend Aimee got hitched to her wonderful, cute fireman. They are going to have cute babies :)

San Diego: I had a google conference and my love got to come with me. Although not the most successful trip we spent one entire day watching TV. This is why we don't have a TV in our bedroom.

The result of all these travels? Our dog barely recognizes us, our friends don't think we exist, and I think we are going to have to rejoin the church on Sunday when we finally make it back.

Whew!

my band director

My boss and his family are members at FBC Abilene and very involved there, especially with the music department. His wife, Elise just sent him an email after she talked to a church member. This woman is a member of FBC and her grandson Coleman is in Mitchell's band. Coleman also plays with the sanctuary orchestra.

She told Elise how blessed Coleman was that The Lord placed men like Mitchell in his life. That he is such a wonderful influence to him and blessing.

Nothing makes my heart happier. I love my husband.

yum-o

What is it about these curly pieces of fried potatoes that I love so much and could eat around the clock?

Could it be the toasty, crispy outside and warm soft inside? Or the special seasoning? Maybe its the fun, irresistible shape. Or the fact that I am just hungry for them all the time and can eat them just because I want to. And because I'm pregnant.

I better get my fill in now before the baby comes. After that I have no excuse to eat them!

6.13.2009

San Diego hasn't been so sunny. My conference has given me more grief and difficulty than inspiring work to do. It costs $35 PER PERSON to go to the SA Zoo. We didn't go. And I miss my doggie (side note, I am trying to figure out ways to take Romulus to Hawaii).

But the most amazing part of this trip? I am with the love of my life. And we celebrated 3 years of marriage on Tuesday.

1. I love how you tell me you love me about 1,000,000 times a day.
2. I love the silly songs you sing and make up.
3. I love your kiss goodnight right before I go to bed and your sleepy I love You in the morning.
4. You always open the car door for me.
5. You've made me a mommy and I couldn't be happier.
6. You work so hard for us, and don't question it one bit.
7. You're such a handiman around the house and you love to learn new things.
8. I love it when you call my daddy for help with things.
9. I never have to ask you to do the dishes.
10. Your closet is always dirty, but you always say you are going to pick it up.
11. You drop me off at the front door of church so I don't have to cross the road.
12. I can't stand to be away from you, even during the work day.
13. I think about you constantly and how happy you make me.
14. You are going to be the most amazing father. Our kids are going to have so much fun with you,
15. You are the best musician and band director. I love seing you with your kids and how much they care for you.
16. June 10, 2006 you chose to make me your wife and make me the happiest, luckiest woman alive.

2 more days

Until my 3rd anniversary to the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me. (up until now)

15 weeks

105 days

2,520 minutes

151,200 seconds

That is how long I have been pregnant and growing my little bun in the oven. My little weekly emails from babycenter.com say we can technically tell the sex of the baby by now. In other words, everything is formed and visible.

That got us thinking.

Up until now I was DEAD set on finding out the sex of our baby. There is so much to do, plan, paint, decorate. But what about this...

How neat would it be if we waited. Yes it would be agony, yes 1,000,000 people and their mothers would be asking the sex of the baby, but how cool would it be if the doctor said,"Here's your baby..." Then it would be the ultimate, super, knock-your-socks-off SURPRISE!

I don't know. The decision is not set it stone, but we are thinking and thinking and thing!

6.04.2009

not again

Two nights ago Mitchell got up from sleeping. Again.

He just sat up in bed, and mumbled his sleepy jibberish. That wasn't the weird part. No, I am used to that. This is what was strange.

He leaned over and hugged my legs. Right around my knees.

Mumbled again. And then gave my legs a kiss.

I thought it was weird. When I told my dear husband about this episode, he thought it was sweet.

I didn't think my legs needed a hug. Or a kiss.

6.03.2009

sunny san diego

We are headed to San Diego, CA next week, June 9-14th! I absolutely cannot wait! I have never been to California and don't know when we will ever have another opportunity to go. San Diego here we come! Mitchell and I will be there for a little under a week and I already have so much in store for us to do!

Visit the amazingly beautiful beaches (but I am sure this will be nothing compared to Hawaii. Don't get jealous Kauai)!

Go to Chef Brain Malarky's restaurant in the Gaslamp District. Brian was a contestant on this past season's Top Chef. I love that show!

Go to the fair that starts THAT WEEK!

Oh, and attend the Google Analytics seminar that I am going for in the first place! Work before play! This is another great conference at a great location. These people aren't stupid when they are booking these places. Too bad I couldn't attend the one in Australia or Brazil!

P.S. 39 days until we leave for HAWAII!

2 more...

Long, much anticipated days until school's out for summer! School's out for ever!

I like singing this song to Mitchell ever year when school gets out. I don't know if he enjoys it as much as I do!

peonies

I love peonies. They are absolutely beautiful, lush, full and quite possibly perfect in every way. I found a small peony bush at Lowe's this weekend and now I am wishing I would have gotten it. I could keep it inside to look at everyday. And have beautiful fresh flowers all the time.

I found this picture on this blog, Whatever that I just love to read. And when I found these peonies on her blog, it was a sign. I need to go get that peony bush!

Oh, peonies. I love you!
